Many of us make resolutions to improve our lifestyle through diet, exercise, and self-care. And that is definitely a good idea because we can always do better when it comes to our overall health. But what about improving ourselves by giving back to our community and others? It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all of the organizations and nonprofits out there requesting help. What do you do if you are financially or physically limited in your abilities to give back?
First, find an organization that resonates with you, and that makes you feel good. Next, verify that the organization is a legitimate nonprofit. Don’t be shy to ask for their financials, licenses, list of board of directors, etc. Do your research!
Then, reach out to them and find out what they need and how you can contribute based on your abilities. Can you volunteer at a physical location or would you rather help from home? If you are not able to donate monetarily, is there something else that they need that you can make or provide? Think outside the box and don’t let your limitations hold you back!
At Forgotten Soldiers Outreach, we have a variety of volunteer opportunities available from hands-on in our warehouse to writing cards and letters of encouragement from your home. We can always use monetary donations but our biggest need is our supply of “We Care” package items. You can pick up an additional item or two for donations when you are out shopping or order from home through Amazon for delivery directly to us.
Here’s to a happy New Year and to be the best that we can be!
