The Sea Angels host monthly beach clean ups and in the month of May, they will be collecting donated items for Forgotten Soldiers Outreach.  FSO will be there to answer any questions that you may have regarding what we do. Stop by and drop off some “care package” items for the troops.

The SeaAngels are dedicated to help in cleaning up our beaches, waters and parks from the continual litter that threatens our wildlife and natural environment. They believe in doing this that it should be done in a greener way to change our ecological footprint.

They have been cleaning our local beaches since 2005 and have participated in several community outreach programs. They have now branched out on their own to provide volunteer opportunities for others who care about the environment and its wildlife. They hope to provide awareness and education so they can teach those helping that what they are doing really does make and impact and hopefully it will carry on for generations to come.

STORAGE WARS FOR OUR TROOPS HOSTED BY SIGNATURE STORAGE AT MONTEREY–BOYNTON BEACH RAISED OVER $4,500 FOR FORGOTTEN SOLDIERS OUTREACH

Boynton Beach – One of the most popular reality TV shows in America got a real-life dose of reality in Palm Beach County on April 21st at Signature Storage at Monterey in Boynton Beach’s Storage Wars Auction for the Troops to support the work of Forgotten Soldiers Outreach (“FSO”), a non-profit organization which sends thousands of monthly “We Care” packages to our young men and women serving our country around the world.  This first time event raised over $4,500 for FSO in less than 3 hours.

Even with the inclement weather forecasted, over 100 people including families, children and “bidders” as well as newbies to this craze showed up to attend, observe and participate in the Storage Wars for the Troops which was patterned after the popular TV show Storage Wars.  

The event was kicked off with the pledge of allegiance by 7 year old Bryson Baggett, FSO Executive Director and Founder, Lynelle Zelnar’s son, and followed with introductions of John Oldham, FSO Event Chair, Al Adams, Facility Manager of Signature Storage, Lynelle Zelnar, Executive Director and Founder of FSO, and Bob Nichols, Chairman of the FSO Board and Storage Units Auctioneer with Mahaffey Auctioneers.

Music was provided by DJ Brandon V, along with a vintage car show hosted by Mike and Stephanie, patrons of Signature Storage.

Former TV news Anchor, Bob Nichols, who is today a licensed professional auctioneer specializing in the sale of storage units with Jerry Mahaffey Auctioneers, Inc. served as the auctioneer for the event.  Nichols is also the National Chairman of FSO.   Unlike a normal “Storage Wars, since it was a charity auction, he was able to tug at the hearts for the cause, and explain that in this case, the bids awarded are considered a tax deductible donation, and sales tax and other applicable taxes and unit deposits were waived. 

Not only did the units include high dollar items including furniture, household items and sports equipment, but each unit also included a “Luxury Vacation Package”.  These packages included an Islamorada in the Florida Keys, an Antigua package and other Caribbean Island packages.    This definitely added to the excitement and the “Bidding Wars”. 

“The event gave folks the feeling of a true storage auction, but with the “added” benefit of simultaneously being able to help  FSO  continue our mission to support our soldiers who put their lives on the line for us to protect our freedom,” says Lynelle Zelnar.  “A special thank you is extended to Signature Storage, Bob Nichols and all the volunteers who helped put this event together and of course those who attended and participated in this unique fundraiser.  Hope to see everyone again in September”, added Zelnar.

“Signature Storage is about the community and what better way than showing our support of our troops, by hosting a fundraiser and having the proceeds go to a great cause.  We are honored to be a part of this event, and are so pleased with the results that we are going to hold this event again in September “says Al Adams, Facility Manager. 

FSO received 100% of the proceeds from the event, in addition to a portion of proceeds from the food and refreshments.

 1^st Annual Knoll Ridge Homeowner’ Association ‘Spring Fling Block Party’ to benefit Forgotten Soldiers Outreach

Ft. Lauderdale, FL – On May 12^th at 3pm, Knoll Ridge Homeowners’ Association will be hosting their “First Annual Spring Fling Block Party” at NE 55th Street between 21st Terrace and 21st Avenue, Ft. Lauderdale, all with the intentions and the heart of showing support for our troops!  Knoll Ridge homeowners will be getting together for a good time and gathering and bringing ‘care package’ items for Forgotten Soldiers Outreach to place in their monthly “We Care” packages.

“What a great way to bring families together in a community, to have fun and at the same time with a common cause of showing support for our troops.  We are honored that Knoll Ridge Homeowners’ Association are including FSO as the recipient charity.  I hope this sets a precedent for other surrounding communities in the tri-county area, we are so excited, says Karla Smiley, FSO Broward County Manager.

FSO is the sole charity for the Superhero Scramble North Florida and we are in charge of getting all of the volunteers for this event.

WE NEED 150 PEOPLE ON JULY 28,2012 IN WALDO, FL (just outside of Gainesville.)

Even if you don’t live near Waldo, we are working on getting a bus and hotel rooms donated or at a reduced price. Also, you may qualify to race for free depending on the number of hours you volunteer. Volunteers also receive a super cool t-shirt, free access to the event and post-race party, food and drinks, and some other cool stuff that is to be announced.

MIAMI’S VICE CITY ROLLERS PARTNERS WITH FORGOTTEN SOLDIERS OUTREACH TO SHOW THEIR SUPPORT FOR OUR TROOPS AT MAY 5^TH BOUT

Miami, FL – On May 5^th at Suniland Hockey Rink, 9300 Coral Reef Drive, Miami at 6:30pm, Miami’s very own Women’s Flat Track Roller Derby team will begin their 2012 Season against the visiting Bradentucky Bombers from Florida’s West Coast. This Derby will be extra special, as the MIAMI’S VICE CITY ROLLERS have partnered with FORGOTTEN SOLDIERS OUTREACH (“FSO”) to have a booth at the derby in order to collect donated items to place in their monthly “We Care” packages sent to troops overseas.

“Some of the derby women and men of Miami’s Vice City Rollers serve our country, while others are daughters, sisters, and wives of military men and women. We wanted to honor those who fight for our country, the country where we’re free to strap on skates, hip-check and hip whip each other; this is why we’ve teamed up with the Forgotten Soldiers Outreach. It is a perfect way for us to honor them. Forgotten Soldiers Outreach will have a booth at our May 5th bout where they will be collecting donation items to send to our troops.
